Isatou Ceesay
Often referred to as the queen of recycling, Isatou Ceesay is a prominent environmental activist from Gambia; she co-founded the "One Plastic Bag" project, which began in the Gambian village of Njau. The project aimed to address the issue of plastic waste by collecting discarded plastic bags, cleaning them, and weaving them into products like purses and bags. This helped reduce plastic pollution and provided economic opportunities for local women, offering them a source of income and empowerment.
